Behavioral Modification

Redirecting bad behavior into good.
Let's turn your fear & frustration into confidence & empowerment.
Is your dog struggling with unwanted behaviors, like chewing, excessive barking, anxiety, or even aggression toward people or other dogs? Do they sometimes seem to act out even after being corrected, or appear to “push back” in ways that feel frustrating or confusing? We understand how stressful this can be.
Our Behavioral Modification and Aggression Training programs are designed to address these challenges safely and effectively. Using positive, proven methods, we help dogs gain impulse control, respond calmly to triggers, and replace problem behaviors with reliable, manageable habits. The result is a happier, more confident dog—and a calmer, more enjoyable life for you both.

What is Behavioral Modification Training & Aggression Training?
Aggression & Reactive Behavior
Every dog is different, which is why no two aggression or reactivity programs look the same. We start with a thorough evaluation to understand your dog’s behavior, triggers, history, and environment. From there, we create a custom plan designed to teach impulse control, respect, and trust through clear structure, communication, and hands-on training. Our goal is to replace reactive or unwanted behaviors with calm, confident obedience that carries over into real-world situations.
Training typically lasts 4-6 weeks and includes:
-
Behavior-specific training in a controlled, structured environment
-
Safe exposure to triggers in real-world settings
-
Guidance for owners on how to maintain progress at home
-
Ongoing support long after the program ends
We don’t believe in quick fixes—we believe that hard work and dedication brings lifelong success.
Understanding Aggression vs. Reactivity
Many dogs labeled as “aggressive” are actually reactive. This distinction is critical: mislabeling a dog as aggressive can earn them harmful or inaccurate labels like “dangerous,” even when their intent is not to harm. Dogs communicate constantly through body language, using warning signals to show they are uncomfortable. It’s only when these signals are ignored that a dog may escalate their behavior to reduce stress.
Dog aggression or reactivity can stem from a variety of factors:
-
Fear or anxiety
-
Genetics or natural temperament
-
Learned behaviors
-
Lack of understanding of expectations
-
Medical issues
All of these factors can contribute, and each dog’s situation is unique. At Salty Dog Training, we’ve successfully rehabilitated dogs ranging from misunderstood to extremely reactive. Our approach follows five core steps: Trust, Teach, Apply, Time, and Movement.
-
Trust: Building a relationship with the dog through motivation and positive reinforcement.
-
Teach: Establishing a clear communication system to define acceptable and unacceptable behaviors.
-
Apply: Practicing these behaviors not just in training sessions, but in real-world environments.
-
Time & Movement: Consistent practice and exposure over time to reinforce learning and confidence.
Owner Education: The Key to Lasting Success
We’ve all heard stories of owners investing thousands of dollars in training only to see it unravel months later. Why does this happen? Because lasting behavior change requires not just training the dog—but educating the owner.
At Salty Dog Training, we focus as much on teaching you as we do your dog. We provide thorough guidance on why behaviors occur, how to respond appropriately, and how to prevent future problems. We prioritize educating pet owners on effective, practical behavior management. By empowering owners with knowledge and confidence, we ensure the rsults last long after the program ends.
Our Approach
Aggression and reactivity aren’t about punishment—they’re about leadership, trust, and clear communication. We work closely with both dogs and owners to address behaviors safely, teaching dogs impulse control, calm responses, and appropriate social interactions. With our guidance, owners leave confident, in control, and equipped to maintain progress for years to come.
